EERA’S “I’ll stop when I’m done” is a glittery call for love.

Glittery, groovy, and quietly devastating — EERA’s "I’ll stop when I’m done" is part Marilyn Monroe tribute, part 80s-inspired pop jam

There’s something instantly addictive about “I’ll stop when I’m done“. Maybe it’s the bassline, warm and determined like it’s out on a late-night walk. Maybe it’s EERA’s voice, breathy and close, like she’s letting us in on a secret while disco lights flicker quietly in the background. Either way, I couldn’t stop playing it once it landed. And I haven’t stopped since.

Inspired by Marilyn Monroe — not the poster, not the quotes on Pinterest, but the woman underneath — EERA gives us something that’s both stylish and achingly tender. The track floats on a glowing synth-pop shimmer that leans into 80s nostalgia but never sounds second-hand. There’s a sweetness in the tone, but it’s not naive. It’s the sound of someone who knows exactly what they want: love, truth, permanence — and a bit of peace, maybe. “I’m just trying to find someone to love” isn’t a desperate plea here. It’s a mantra. A mirror held up to all the personas we build and break.

Sonically, it sits somewhere between Broadcast’s dreamy psych and early PJ Harvey’s controlled angst — but sleeker, dressed in something slinky and silver. The production doesn’t try to overpower the emotion; it just gives it enough space to move around. You feel it especially in the chorus, which pulls back just enough to let the vulnerability breathe. It’s pop with a quiet philosophy. You dance to it, sure — but you think while you’re doing it.

About EERA:

EERA, aka Anna Lena Bruland, has been simmering quietly since her 2017 debut “Reflection of Youth”, but there’s a louder confidence in what’s coming now. Her new album “I’ll Stop When I’m Done”, due September 26 via Test Card Recordings, feels like the real arrival. She’s not just playing with ideas anymore — she’s embodying them, whether that’s through referencing Marilyn Monroe or flipping 80s synth tropes into something that sounds like the present. If this is what “done” looks like, let’s hope she never stops.
