I was born before the internet. And yes, that’s now a whole category of human. So when Twin Toes dropped their new single “Born Before the Internet”, I didn’t just relate—I winced, laughed, nodded, and danced a little in my kitchen. This is nostalgia with teeth, humour with rhythm, and just the right amount of existential side-eye.
“Born Before the Internet” feels like watching a VHS tape of your childhood while scrolling doom news on your phone. It’s weirdly comforting and also just weird—in the best possible way. Twin Toes (a.k.a. Nico and Antoine) have clearly streamlined their songwriting into something tighter and shinier, but not at the expense of their eccentric soul. The track manages to be both stripped-down and full of subtle sonic oddities: warped harmonies, glimmering synth lines, and a beat that nudges you into movement without asking too many questions.
Lyrically, they cut right to the chaos—no metaphors, just mantras. It’s almost like hearing your own digital fatigue put to melody. But don’t be fooled by the goofball charm: beneath the playful tone is a serious pulse, the kind that comes from truly feeling the overload of now. There’s something endearingly vulnerable about how they walk that tightrope—funny without being flippant, self-aware without self-pity.
There’s a hint of Connan Mockasin or Soft Hair in the DNA—some glam slack, some lo-fi freakery—but Twin Toes never sound derivative. Instead, they sound like the inside of a Wes Anderson music box if it got hacked by TikTok kids with synths. It’s clever, but also unpretentious. And that chorus? It’ll bounce around your brain like a pixelated screensaver long after the song ends.
About Twin Toes:
Hailing from Brussels, Twin Toes is what happens when two producers with a shared love for pop oddities decide to build something entirely their own. Since their experimental debut in 2022, they’ve leaned into a sharper, more immediate sound—catchier hooks, harder-hitting beats, and a weirdly effective blend of analog warmth and hyperpop glitch. Their upcoming EP promises to push things further, but “Born Before the Internet” is already proof enough that Twin Toes aren’t just evolving—they’re carving out a strange, joyful little corner of alt-pop for the rest of us analog survivors.
