Madge & Sea Glass sketch a dreamy indie pop sound on “Pencils”

Whispered confessions, wavy guitars, and indie pop magic from Madge & Sea Glass.

Some collaborations just click—and Madge and Sea Glass prove it with “Pencils“. This indie pop gem is as effortless as it is infectious, blending dreamy guitars, whispered confessions, and a melody that lingers like an unanswered text.

Sea Glass—aka producer Jake Muskat—sets the mood with a wavy, nostalgia-soaked instrumental, while Madge delivers vocals that float between vulnerability and defiance. “I didn’t mean I wanna be friends”, they sing, starting soft before building to an almost cathartic release. It’s a perfect balance: delicate yet sharp, smooth yet biting. The production is lush but never overcrowded, leaving space for the emotion to breathe.

The song’s journey is almost as compelling as the track itself. Muskat wrote the demo right after wrapping his first LP, carried it to SXSW hoping to find a voice for it, and ended up waiting over a year before linking up with Madge through a mutual friend. But when inspiration struck, it was instant—”Pencils” was finished in just 90 minutes. You can hear that spontaneous magic in the track: nothing feels forced, just an effortless meeting of melodies and moods.

This marks the first collaboration between Sea Glass and Madge, but given how natural it sounds, it surely won’t be the last. Sea Glass is gearing up for his debut album “A Walk Through The Woods“, while Madge is working on their sophomore LP—so consider this the warm-up for much more to come.
