Since the beginning of this magazine that we have been receiving great electronic tracks. For some reason, we didn’t post about those submissions because we felt they should be integrated into a specific mood. We are now building that mood with a monthly post focusing on the best of indietronica. This is electromental – part 31.
A/S/L – Then Close Your Eyes
A/S/L is set to captivate electronic music aficionados with the release of his debut EP, “Signs of Romance“, which dropped last week. This EP promises a unique auditory journey, blending plunderphonic dance with echoes of lost civilizations and the nostalgia of yesterday’s futurism. Each track seamlessly transitions into the next, creating a cohesive DJ mix experience. One standout track is “Then Close Your Eyes” a 90s-inflected masterpiece that evokes the ethereal quality of mid-career Moby. Having already made waves with substantial editorial support and placements on major Spotify playlists, A/S/L has been a clandestine force in the LA music scene for over a decade. His collaboration with the secretive PAZ label and creative director Young Replicant has finally brought his distinctive sound to a broader audience, marking a significant milestone as PAZ joins forces with Future Gods to release music through conventional channels in 2024.
Calcou – Birdsong
When Calcou meets new music, magic happens. His latest track, “Birdsong“, is no exception. From the very first listen, you are transported to a place of serene beauty, a reflection of the artist’s hike at Seddinsee near Berlin, where the song’s initial inspiration took root.
In “Birdsong“, Calcou begins with an enchanting field recording of birds he captured during his hike. This natural element forms the backbone of the song, seamlessly blending with a piano chord sequence that emerged spontaneously in the studio. The track evolves organically, layering acoustic drums, piano, and Calcou’s own vocal chops with synthesizers and samples. This mix creates a very hypnotic and cool energy that exudes a stress-free environment. The essence of “Birdsong” lies in its ability to radiate freedom, warmth, and hope. The result is a soundscape that is both intimate and expansive, capturing the listener’s imagination and emotions.
Drive To Tears – Anymore
Emerging from the depths of the UK House and Future Garage scene, Drive To Tears—the creative moniker of multi-instrumentalist Andrey Malinin—has released his latest track, “Anymore”. This sequel to his previous hit, “Feeling” delves into a darker, more introspective realm, encapsulating a sense of paranoia with its industrial techno-infused sound. Every element, meticulously crafted and recorded by Malinin himself, weaves a narrative of anxiety through hauntingly repetitive phrases and a clipping bassline. Transitioning from his early days in a metal band to creating under the influence of electronic maestros like Marshmello and Rezz, Andrey’s journey has been one of constant evolution. With “Anymore” he continues to push the boundaries, aiming to evoke raw, unfiltered emotions while making listeners move to the beat—a testament to his passion and versatility in the ever-changing electronic music landscape.

As summer approaches, Berlin-based singer-songwriter fraen sets the stage with her latest single, “hit’n’run“. Known for blending Neo-Soul, R’n’B, and UK Garage, fraen brings her unique sound and introspective lyrics to the forefront once again. The song “hit’n’run” encapsulates the turmoil of a complicated relationship, drawing from fraen’s personal experiences. From the very first line, “I can’t always be a possibility”, fraen establishes the narrative of a desperate search for clarity amidst a partner’s ambivalence. This analogy of a hit-and-run perfectly captures the essence of fleeting attachment. Fraen’s melancholic voice, combined with the soulful and bass-heavy beats, creates a chill yet deeply involving track that resonates on multiple levels. The futuristic elements woven into the music add a modern twist, making it both relatable and fresh.
