Nestled in the sun-soaked hills of Bristol, Cousin Kula has crafted a unique musical realm blending elements of jazz, club energy, and psychedelic tapestries. Despite lockdown limitations disrupting studio plans, the band initiated home recording, resulting in the “Casa Kula Cassette” release in late 2020, catching the attention of DJ Bradley Zero and leading to a full-length album with Rhythm Section Intl. Known for their exceptional live performances honed over a decade, the absence of stages during lockdown prompted inventive homemade live sessions, including a Boiler Room Session and a request from BADBADNOTGOOD for a live rendition of their new single. Now, Cousin Kula emerges with timeless psychedelic soul, captivating audiences with their latest material.
The band brings an amorous vibe with their latest single “Clothes Off“, accompanied by a self-directed, tongue-in-cheek video portraying a steamy date. Elliot and Doug share the inspiration behind the track, initially conceived on a scorching July day, evolving into a playful yet provocative narrative. Released on Valentine’s Day alongside the video, the song previews their forthcoming disco and funk-infused album “Vitamin D“, set to drop on March 15th, 2024, via Rhythm Section Intl. Reflecting on their sophomore effort, vocalist Elliot Ellison emphasizes the album’s playful and lighthearted essence, capturing the band’s infectious energy and spirit.
