In the much-anticipated debut album “Murmuration“, Calcou marks a significant milestone following three EPs and a string of acclaimed singles. The first release of the year, “Wasteland“, a collaboration with indie/alt RnB singer Thea Alien, showcases Calcou‘s mastery. The track, mastered by Zino Mikorey, envelops listeners in Thea Alien‘s breathy and melancholic vocals, accompanied by broom-struck hihats, gentle percussion, and a mesmerizingly buzzing synthesizer. Calcou seamlessly intertwines acoustic instruments with classical dance elements, creating a captivating soundscape that reflects a poignant yearning for freedom. Exploring themes of self-realization and the courage to embrace change, Calcou describes “Wasteland” as a powerful and liberating ode to facing one’s reality and letting go when necessary.
