SOMOH represents the individual identity of Sophia Mohan, encompassing a fusion of bedroom-pop and 90s indie rock. Through SOMOH‘s intimately crafted songs, which evoke a sense of nostalgia and warmth, she delves into themes such as love, challenges, camaraderie, and familial bonds. Drawing inspiration from artists like Beabadoobee, Soccer Mommy, and Alex G, SOMOH‘s music channels a captivating blend of personal resonance.
After garnering backing from BBC Radio 1, The Line of Best Fit, DIY Magazine, and Clash, SOMOH embarked on crafting her sophomore EP during the summer of 2023. Comprising a collection of exquisite lo-fi pop compositions, the EP traces a path of maturation, self-discovery, and the revelation of how one’s history molds their perception of love and relationships. This fresh EP is slated for release spanning the autumn and winter months of 2023 but it’s first single is here.
In her cathartic new indie anthem titled “Favourite“, SOMOH addresses the inclination to mend everyone else’s issues while neglecting her own. This bittersweet contemplation delves into the complexities of seeking validation and love, drawing artistic influence from the styles of Indigo De Souza and Jay Som.
About her latest single, SOMOH told us that: “”Favourite” is about trying to feel a sense of validation through “fixing” everyone’s problems but your own. There’s a childlike obsession that comes with having a saviour complex and I wanted to represent that in the artwork; a diary where you would write down your deepest, darkest secrets. The process of writing to releasing this song has been the fastest yet, but I think that speaks to how excited I am for where this next project is headed. You can expect a much fuller sound, as I lean more into alternative and rock influences.“
