Soft Loft‘s second-ever single, “Little Less” is the type of track that possesses the ability to entice you out from the warmth of your bed covers and draw you out into the world. It is a track written from a perspective where the singer needed strength and as a listener, you can feel it. The track doesn’t encourage you to run away, but rather to ensure that you don’t overlook the sunshine that awaits outside. As Jorina states:
“I tend to struggle with letting go after a breakup and want to hold on to all the love, it just feels very hard to say it‘s over for good, so I‘d rather be upset about the person letting me go than just accept it and let go. Later in the song I realise it will make it easier if I’d feel just a little less of the love I have for this person, but I‘d still be up to talk it all over, so hit me up!“
With examples such as Sharon Van Etten and Big Thief, there is also a silver retro feel in this (K.T. Tunstall anyone?) and a beautiful raw feel that comes from a heartbreaking vocal tone through which we can really feel the pain (and the strength to contradict adversity). There is also a huge notion of the simplicity of composition. In the repetition of the drum-guitar duet it finds the butter for its message, with the vocals doing the rest. This is definitely among the best songs you gonna listen to this year.
