Lucifers Beard (UK-based composer Christopher Barnes) is a collection of intricate arrangements built on a foundation of compelling vocals, absorbing guitar work and a powerful rhythm section. The songs pay homage to British rock roots, while simultaneously driving home a sound that is contemporary, emotive and challenging to define.
Released in early October, The Guy With A Black Eye is the second release to escape from Lucifers Beard‘s home made studio and counts with the help of Ed Ripley on the master.
The song was “inspired by a passerby in the street. A skateboard tucked under his arm, attitude for days and a big black eye” says the songwriter. He also tells us that he “don’t usually have a concept of a song before the music has been written. The music usually drives any narrative for me. So when I had this character in my head I just started aimlessly playing fast guitar chords and it all fell into place pretty quickly, I thought about trying to put a bridge in or other sections, but conceptually it just felt right to be a short aggressive and punchy song! “
