Bedroom pop can be a great genre. You can grab the DIY aesthetic and fill it with influences from other (mostly similar…) genres and you can create a truly wonderful track. I would argue the newest Shane Malone and Sprig (fka rosemary) collab, “Waiting“, is a terrific example of that collision of worlds working wonders.
“Waiting” is the first release for their debut label release with Havêa Records, and it hits the sweet spot perfectly between crossing the dreamy world of bedroom pop with the mellow side of jangle pop and indie rock, pushing to the sonic territory of artists like Mac DeMarco or Yellow Days. The song feels like a claustrophobic existential crisis through the mid-’20s, with its roaring guitars and dreamy synths, and it somehow makes us still smile as those catchy hooks keep raining on us. It makes us enjoy the little things and it’s truly a great track. We can’t wait to listen more by this duo.
