Lullabies are the best. Even the sad ones. Richard Walters is a UK based songwriter and singer who recently dropped his latest contribution to the melancholic side of music. This Fire is about one month old and it is beautiful.
This Fire is a song that made us go back to the early times of Where the Music Meets. We felt the exact passion that made us jump into this exciting project. Artists like Meadowlark, Old Sea Brigade and Talos came to mind as soon as we heard the opening piano and the clear, expansive voice. You can hear the emotion coming out of his vocal cords every word he sings and this is the kind of music we need in the World. Real music, real lyrics, real intention. Real emotion.
There is a certain calm embedded in Richard Walters’ voice even as he sings of the saddest break-ups. There is a certain predictability on the subject of easily ignited fights by easily exploding people. Still, as predictable as it may be, it still hurts as hell. “Sometimes you get warmth and other times you get burnt.”
[su_quote cite=”Richard Walters”]This is a song about the risks of volatile artistic relationships, working and living with people who have a tendency to explode from time to time, those brilliant creative people who offer so much but sometimes are hard to stand by.[/su_quote]
The lyrics are meant to be read and felt as you listen to the song. Not everyone can put into words the flames the heart feels, but Richard Walters nailed it (via https://genius.com):
This fire starts
Wherever you are
Then questions get out
This smoke climbs
From where you’re standing
And people will talk
And you leave me
In the middle of it
And you leave me alone
And I can’t stand the heat no more
And I can hardly breathe
And I can’t stand so close to this fire
These sparks fly
Whenever you speak
And fools captured light
If you don’t fight
And we don’t try
And you leave me
In the middle of it
And you leave me alone
And I can’t stand the heat no more
And I can hardly breathe
And I can’t stand so close to this fire today
To this fire
