[Best of August] Alex the Astronaut: Not Worth Hiding

Not Worth Hiding from Alex the Astronaut is a beautiful song about accepting differences. It also happens to be August's song of the month.

Every month with the help from o S A P O M u d o | f r o m t h e F R O G we select the best song of the month. The selected song is entitled to a special drawing. We hope you enjoy it as much as we do.

Just a couple of days ago we wrote about Alex the Astronaut‘s new song Not Worth Hiding as an obligatory message and a song that showcases music power to change mentalities. While the song portrays Alex’s story about growing up with distinct preferences than the majority; we sure though it also echoed in a whole lot of other ways.

The Frog has the same opinion and gives several reasons for choosing it as the song of the month. For her, the song brings back the simplicity of songs like the ones from the movie Juno. And there is also a certain innocence in it. Maybe because of the way the writing is so honest and the song is so striped away from other than the traditional instruments – the drums, the guitar and the violins. But above all, Not Worth Hiding is a great song because of the message it transmits. “Is not worth hiding if you’re feeling in pain” – is much more than the teenage pain portrayed in the story.

We acknowledge how rare it is for a simple song to be capable of giving every single person a certain strength against their own fears and differences. This one does it, in a simple but powerful way.

The Frog portrays those differences in a beautiful drawing with a dragonfly and bird facing their differences. A drawing that was also inspired by Beatriz Pessoa’s interview – “Going from Insects to Humans”. From these starting points, each person should extract from it their own meanings and strengths, just like in the song.
