Last week we stumbled into the newest single of Amber Coffman. Well, our excitement was not odd, since we’ve been following Dirty Projectors and Amber‘s featured songs. But this was different: Amber sounds unique now.
Once you listen to All To Myself you can hear the Dirty Projectors‘ influence as well as some Lisa Hannigan in her voice. By the time the song grows, we’re certain that this was the right time for Amber to record by her own signature. She sounds mature, every bit is coherent, and the back vocals and choir turn this song into something mystical and deep, like if you are traveling through the unknown, combining with Amber‘s angelical voice. “Watch the sky open up and turn the fall into a dive/ See that I’m gonna be just fine” is the exponent of that feeling, which you can decode in the lyrics, as a reaffirmation of someone’s body and mind.
All to Myself makes us wonder about new songs and works. Our expectations are high, but for now we just keep waiting and hearing this one on repeat.
