Thank God It’s Friday! Another week, another mini-playlist put together with love. This week we have in store soft rock, sexy blues and wild gospel. With some borderline rated-R moments, this playlist is the perfect soundtrack for both relaxing and on-the-go weekend. Hope you’ll enjoy listening to this as much as we did putting it together.
Joe Osborne & The Winter Moon – Something New
Our love for Joe Osborne and his palls is no secret. Since we premiered the release of The Republic that we were waiting for the rest of the EP to be officially released. As they finally did it today, we wouldn’t mind spending the weekend playing the four-track-long-no-brainier on repeat. For the purposes of this rubric, mixing folk and rock in an almost effortless manner, here is the second track of the EP, Something New:
Michael Kiwanuka – One More Night
Protagonist of one of the best albums of the year, Michael Kiwanuka dropped an official video for his beautiful single One More Night. If the track by itself was already one of the highlighters of the album, this video features awesome dance moves with unorthodox camera angles. Big legs moving to Michael‘s perfect rock-reggae composition are everything we need for a relaxed end of week.
LAAKES– Only High
Our second TGIF featured Laakes‘ first and only single at the time, Fold. But three days ago Laakes released a new track, hypnotizing us once again. Only High is a very smooth song, perfect for a moment for two, reminding The Weeknd‘s sexiness. 100% of efficiency from Laakes.
Cosima – Hymns For Him
One week ago Cosima released one more single (third this year), this time Hymns From Him is a provocative, teasing song. Is amazing how they base their sonority on bass lines and great drums, exploding with an amazing female voice. This track is another solution for a hot moment for two, this one will definitely make you sweat!
Milky Chance – Cocoon
Starting off the weekend with brand new music sounds like a treat for us. Milky Chance just released today their first single of the second album – Cocoon. The band explained this single came from a period of reflection on the runaway success of their first album. As the single’s name and sound implies, it also brings forth a palpable sense of returning to a place of serenity. Keeping intact most of the sonority we’ve grown accustomed to, Milky Chance opened the way to the second album beautifully.
Childish Gambino – Me and Your Mamma
Today, Zane Lowe premiered Childish Gambino‘s first single of the upcoming LP, Me and Your Mama. It’s a gospel chorus-backed three-part song and it begins very quietly. This single builds to a soulful, grooving affair with a female gospel-tipped chorus, before it escalates to a blues-funk tempo where Gambino‘s passionate, raw and intense vocals kick in. Me and Your Momma is a complete song in it self, carrying itself effortlessly throughout its 6 minutes extent.
