After a year’s hiatus, Mt. Wolf are back in full force, as following their Hex EP they released September 9th a new single, Golden. As expected, they joined forces with another artist, making this single another great collaboration work in their repertoire. This time, it was with the Australian vocalist St. South that wrote the song and Mt. Wolf worked and produced on top of that first draft of hers.
Golden turned out to be a delicate alt-folk track that plays around with the duality of the sweet and purely light vocals. The magic lays in contrast of the soft feminine voice of St. South and the warm, tender tone of Mt. Wolf‘s vocals. In addition, the aural, atmospheric vibe of the song brings all elements together as it calmly softens our heartbeat and leaves some room to breathe in the midst of Monday’s usual hectic routine. Importantly, speaking of hectic Mondays, this song is about struggling with anxiety and trying to overcome it, as Mt. Wolf explained:
We discovered [St. South] through Spotify, and asked straight out if she wanted to work on some music together. We sent her Stevie’s guitar part and she laid her vocals on that, explaining that it was about struggling with anxiety. I then started producing the track and added vocals making the song a dialogue between one person expressing their anxiety, and the other apologizing for their part in causing it, and their inability to diminish it.
