After about four years ago, the 17 year-old Evan Sinton classified 3rd in New Zealand Got Talent constructed a musical alter-ego entitled MAALA. He debuted with an electronic-hued, down-tempo, and atmospheric self-titled EP (MAALA EP) which was a quite solid effort presenting similarities across artists like HONNE or even The Fray. But this time it seems quite different. He just released the first track from the forthcoming album Kind of Love, and the focus is clearly on making powerful, addictive pop music with big hooks and expansive, thumping production. From the first few beats, we got that chilly feeling that this was going to be a good one. Shortly after, almost urgently after, we got his soft manly voice singing You got that kind of love that I’ve been dreaming of… And the chills took over. Hook after hook, sexy innuendos, rhythm variation, rushed/paused synths and some powerful almost acapella vocal moments make the perfect tune to start a going out routine to lift up the moral. If we got the kind of love he’s been dreaming of, then he has the Midas touch to make spot-on electrifying music we’ve been biding for.
